Rustic modern style: materials and designs

By 28 June, 2018 No Comments

Although at first they might seem incompatible, it is possible to bring together two trends as different as rustic design and modern style. But first of all, what do we actually understand by each concept? On the one hand, rustic design generally refers to a look that is natural, ethnic and somewhat rough around the edges; a look that provides a space with a warm and cozy feeling. Raw stone and wood are usually the materials employed when designing these types of ambiances. Modern design, on the other hand, is a style that encompasses all the characteristics associated to the 20th century modern movement. In general terms, it emphasizes clean and strict lines, plain and monochromatic colors to create. a certain industrial feel; the materials which best express this concept are metals, treated stone and fine woods.

Therefore, even though they could seem like two absolutely different worlds, the truth is that the combination of these two design concepts can produce extremely original and effective results.

But combining these styles can be tricky. In order to achieve an integrated result, special attention must be payed to the sense of proportion, layout of space and selection of materials. Most of the time, the dimensions and organization of the room are conceived using modern design criteria and then rustic material is used for finishes and furniture in order to complement modern décor, completing the design in this manner. Open free spaces, the meticulous layout of furniture, clear work surfaces… are frequently the canvas upon which the design lines are drawn and into which elements with a more rural trend are inserted, creating a perfect symbiosis between “new” and “vernacular”.

When it comes to interior architecture, there are frequently some key elements which are able to connect these two concepts in a very efficient manner. What we are referring to are objects or materials that, given their aesthetic features, can bring together the simple naturalness of rustic style and the functional elegance of modern design.

COMPAC surfaces constitute a key element in the design of rustic modern spaces. After a great product development process, COMPAC has created an innovative quality product consisting of marble and quartz finishes, designed with clean lines and mineral textures. The combination of material and design in this product provides the designer with the perfect element to be used to combine both rustic and modern worlds.

But COMPAC not only offers a product of natural beauty. This material also has remarkable technical performance, which makes this product line highly functional. For instance, their technological quartz and marble line is frequently used in areas that suffer important wear conditions, such as kitchens or bathrooms.

The fact is that modern rustic design is based on the strategic insertion of these key elements, which must be capable of bringing together such divergent concepts. The key for success is not to try to force the design of a style -which could possibly lead to a clash between the two concepts- but to artfully select which pieces will be able to bring together these two trends. This technique will also make the most of the design using a minimum number of components, therefore making it much easier to integrate all the elements within one design concept.

Materials and design are conceived as a whole in every product produced by COMPAC, and are designed in order to comply with both technical and aesthetic requirements in every project, making each of them one of a kind.

For this reason, their product line can really bring to life the joint concept of modern and rustic design, producing a minimalist result which is also natural and warm; the perfect blend for those who love cozy but stylish spaces.
